Palworld Breeding – How to hatch eggs

How do you breed Pals and hatch eggs in Palworld? Palworld is a Pokemon-like game in which you catch and raise cute animals. It doesn’t stop there, though, as Palworld also features weapons, dangerous bosses, exploration and survival, and even farming and automation – all including your Pals.

As with any creature collection game, though, one of the most crucial aspects is breeding. With an element of randomness, or RNG, to finding and catching your Palworld Pals, and their stats thereafter, breeding is a great method for creating a team of the strongest creatures in the adventure game. So, as you catch them all – and put them to work making guns in sweatshops – here’s what you need to know about breeding in Palworld, and hatching Palworld eggs.

How to breed Pals

To breed Pals you should:

  • Build a breeding farm
  • Throw a Pal of each gender into the farm
  • Stock the breeding farm with cake
  • Wait for the breeding meter to fill up
  • The Pal will lay an egg if breeding is successful
  • Place the egg in an incubator

Breed two of the same Pal together, including Lucky Pals and other variations, for a chance to combine their most powerful statistics. You can continue to hatch stronger and stronger creatures by breeding your most powerful Pals and working towards building a team of the strongest Pals you can in order to venture into the most dangerous areas of Palworld.

Eggs can also spawn in the wild and, when collected, can be placed in an incubator in order to hatch.

How to hatch Palworld eggs

To hatch Palworld eggs, you must place them in an Egg Incubator and wait for the required time. Once the egg is incubating, you can speed up the process by ensuring that the egg is comfortable or at the right temperature.

To maintain the right temperature for the incubating egg, you can place a cooler or heater nearby to regulate the temperature of the atmosphere. Unfortunately, these items unlock far later than the incubator itself. However, a campfire will do in a pinch, but it won’t add much to your egg’s core temperature. Eggs still hatch even if they’re uncomfortable – they take a while longer.

How to unlock Palworld Egg Incubator

To unlock the Palworld Egg Incubator, you must first reach level seven and unlock the recipe in the Ancient Technology tab. To actually craft the incubator, though, you need to obtain some fairly rare items.

To craft a Palworld Egg Incubator, you need:

  • 30 Stone
  • Five Cloth
  • Ten Paldium Fragments
  • Two Ancient Civilization Parts

It’s these latter items that are the hardest to obtain, as you need to defeat large, wild Pals or cave bosses. In order to successfully defeat these bosses, you need to have a pretty high-level party at your side, so you might be waiting a little longer until you can hatch any Palworld eggs.

Unlike Pokémon, you can also breed Pals of different species for unusual and varied results, including some of the rarest Pals available in-game that change the Palworld element types.

You can breed a variant by selecting two of the Pal’s original species or the original species and a Pal of the variant’s element. For example, you’ll need either two Jolthogs to make another regular Jolthog or a Jolthog and an ice-type Pal such as Sweepa to make its Cryst variant.

If breeding them sounds like a lot of hard work, there are other ways to find them. Some are found in higher-level areas such as the Dessicated Desert. Very rarely, you can also hatch these variants from the larger eggs found in the wild, so incubate them, and they’ll eventually hatch into a powerful new ally. These don’t need to be in your Paldeck.

Palworld breeding farm

The Palworld breeding farm is unlocked with Technology Points and allows two Pals to breed with each other. It is unlocked at level 19 and requires 100 wood, 20 stone, and 50 fiber to build.

You can assign two Pals to a farm by picking them up and throwing them towards the stable. If you want your Pals to breed successfully, you must have enough cake placed in the crate on the right-hand side of the fence. A message will appear that reads, “Love is blossoming between the two Pals” unless there is no cake left or if both Pals are the same gender.

The breeding progress bar will appear and will continue to fill until full, even if you run out of cake during the process, but they will not lay an egg unless you have cake.

Pals can breed as often as you like, as there is no breeding cooldown for them. Passive skills and the parent Pals’ stats are passed down when breeding.

Palworld cake

To make cake in Palworld you must first unlock the Cooking Pot at level 17. You will need the following ingredients to make cake:

  • 5 x Flour
  • 8 x Red Berries
  • 7 x Milk
  • 8 x Eggs
  • 2 x Honey
